Instructions for Use of SLA Resin Parts

RTV (Room Temperature) or HV (Heat Vulcanized) Silicone Molding

  1. The SLA resin contains components that may inhibit silicone rubber molding materials. To insure a perfect mold, first clean your part with isopropyl alcohol 99% concentration.
  2. You can then sand or bead blast your piece. If blasting will not be acceptable for the final finish, you must coat the part with either automobile primer(acrylic) or “W” coating available from The Contenti Company (401-421-4040 in Rhode Island. The recommended RTV silicone is Shin+Etsu 1300T from Walco (www.walcomaterials.com).
TIP: If you would like to go directly into a production mold with virtually no shrinkage, The Contenti Company has a product called “A40”. This HV silicone vulcanizes at low temperatures and low pressure and has an average shrink of less than .2 percent. This mold has great tear strength as well as great memory. This allows you to go directly to production right from the SLA machine.

Natural Rubber Mold Material

For parts that do not have delicate geometries you can mold the part in the regular mold natural rubber like Castaldo, Neo-Brown, Kerr etc. Be careful to tightly pack the model in the mold since any void will put pressure on the heated part and will yield results that are not acceptable. Please call us if you have any additional questions.
