LTV Mold Rubber

Instructions for Use

LTV mold rubber is unique in that it incorporates the advantages of RTV with the advantages of High Heat Vulcanized (HV) mold materials. The actual shrinkage is less then .2%, yet it has great surfaces and high tear strength.

Precautions

If using a mold frame that has previously been used for vulcanization of natural or organic mold rubber, be sure to clean with acetone or a rubber solvent such as lighter fluid.

Pattern Preparation

Make sure your pattern is clean and free of any chemical residues. If your pattern is composed of SLA resin, coat the pattern with talc or casting powder.

Vulcanizing Specifications

  1. LTV requires 1/10th of the clamping pressure of natural rubber (Just clamp, no pressure).
  2. Cure at 185 degrees F for 8 minutes per millimeter of mold thickness. Curing temperature can be decrease to 100 degrees F for 30 minutes per millimeter of mold.
  3. After cure remove from vulcanizer and cut in regular fashion. You also can use talc or casting powder to make a powder separation mold.

Wax Injection

No talc or silicone spray is required during wax injection of LTV molds.
