Casting Urethane Resins

Casting resin is used to print sacrificial patterns for investment casting. The printed pattern is cleaned, post-cured as required, invested, and removed during burnout so the mould can receive metal. CAD BLU products support jewellery, dental, industrial, and prototyping applications, including rings, fine detail, dental frameworks, crowns, bridges, and intricate small metal components.

Resin categories vary by chemistry and application. In this product range, the relevant distinction is between 100% printable wax, castable photopolymer resin, and other resin materials used for prototyping. Wax burns out with no ash or residue on suitable schedules, while castable photopolymers require a dedicated burnout ramp. Materials remain printer-specific.

General resin may be formulated for strength, appearance, flexibility, or prototyping and may not burn out cleanly. Casting resin is specifically designed to form a sacrificial pattern that can be invested and removed during burnout. CAD BLU’s castable photopolymers are UV-curable investment-casting materials, not two-part urethane or polyurethane pour-casting resins.

Urethane can be cast in processes designed for two-part polyurethane materials, typically using a mould and a compatible casting system. However, the products on this page are not urethane pour-casting materials. They are printer-specific 100% waxes and UV-curable castable photopolymers for investment-casting burnout, so they should not be substituted for urethane.

Strength alone does not determine the best casting resin. The pattern must withstand handling, support removal, cleaning, post-processing, sprueing, and investing while still burning out appropriately. CAD BLU’s range includes castable photopolymers and printable waxes selected by printer compatibility, detail, burnout behaviour, and application rather than by a single strength ranking.

Urethane casting resin is generally a two-part polyurethane material poured into a mould to reproduce a model or component. It is chemically and functionally different from the investment-casting materials listed here. CAD BLU’s products are printable waxes and UV-curable castable photopolymers that create sacrificial patterns for burnout, rather than poured urethane parts.
