Casting wax is utilized in dental laboratories to form wax patterns for metal restorations such as inlays, onlays, copings, and removable partial dentures. Because casting wax and castable resins are designed to vaporize or burn out cleanly without leaving ash residue, they allow molten alloys to accurately occupy the mold cavity during investment casting.

Patient relief wax applied to orthodontic appliances or chipped teeth is designed for temporary use and typically stays in place for several hours before requiring reapplication after eating or oral hygiene. In contrast, laboratory modeling and pattern waxes are strictly technical materials used during model fabrication and are never applied intraorally on a patient.

Dental waxes are traditionally classified into pattern waxes, processing waxes, and impression waxes. Pattern waxes include inlay, casting, and baseplate waxes used to construct shapes for restorations. Processing waxes aid in laboratory procedures like boxing or sticky assembly, while impression waxes are utilized for specific corrective registrations within clinical and laboratory dental practices.

Castable waxes and resins are formulated for additive systems including MultiJet Printing (MJP) and Stereolithography (SLA). These printing technologies offer high feature resolution, clean edges, and support structures necessary to produce detailed dental patterns ready for direct investment casting without distortion.

Castable materials and waxes are supplied in various packaging configurations to suit production requirements, including bottles and cartridges in different capacities. Users can select options such as 1.3 kg or 1.5 kg bottles as well as 2-liter and 10 kg cartridges depending on the specific printer platform.

Standard castable materials and wax formulations engineered for precision casting are designed for clean burnout during investment procedures. Following the recommended furnace burnout schedule ensures that patterns evaporate thoroughly without leaving ash, preventing surface pitting or inclusions in the final cast restorations.
