A traditional jewellery workflow typically uses a master model, a vulcanised or RTV rubber mould, wax injection, and investment casting. Instead, its digital workflow uses a CAD file, a printer-compatible wax or castable resin pattern, investment, and burnout. Material choice and processing must follow the applicable technical data sheet.

Mouldable rubber that hardens may refer to RTV silicone or vulcanising rubber, depending on the process. These are different materials from CAD BLU’s castable photopolymers and printable waxes. CAD BLU’s castable resins are UV-curable pattern materials intended for investment-casting burnout, not two-part urethane or polyurethane resins poured into silicone moulds.

A jewellery mould can traditionally be made from a master model using vulcanising rubber or RTV silicone, followed by wax injection and investment casting. CAD BLU offers an alternative digital route: create or scan a CAD design, print a wax or castable resin pattern on a compatible system, then prepare and invest it according to the material documentation. This avoids creating a physical mould for every design variation.

The appropriate rubber depends on the master model, required flexibility, undercuts, production volume, and mould-making process. Vulcanising rubber suits reusable production tooling, while RTV silicone cures at room temperature and can be gentler on some masters. CAD BLU does not supply these rubber materials. Its range instead includes printer-specific wax and castable photopolymer patterns for investment casting.
